Raw products which are traditionally not used (very fine slurries), can be increased in value if they are transformed into pumpable pulp, in such a way as to be transported, then injected, into a fluidized bed combustor or a pressurised gazifier.
The objective of this project is to prepare pulp from slurries of various origins, the granularity and fluidity of which are compatible with transportation, then injection into a fluidized bed. In order to do this the slurries are taken as they are, without grinding or modification of granulometric distribution, except for security filtering with the aim of eliminating overlarge foreign bodies. The eventual addition of dispersants serves to maintain fluidity at the desired level, while reducing the addition of water for dilution.
Experiments carried out on slurries recovered from settling tanks or on freshly produced slurries have shown the feasibility of preparing pumpable pulps with a high content of solids. However, a deeper understanding needs to be developed to allow optimisation of the dimensions and functioning of the preparation process, and of the transport of pulps, in order to obtain the best possible techno-economic compromise. .
