Two twin graphite-moderated gas-cooled reactors (GCR) were built at Marcoule: G2 (1959) and G3 (1960). Since their final shutdown in 1981 (G2) and 1984 (G3), the core radioactivity has diminished to a point at which full decommissioning to Stage 3 may be considered.
The present report deals with the three studies preliminary to this decommissioning:
analysis of the geometric, physical and radiochemical data, and test measuring;
generalised radioactive inventory through calculation and comparison with the measurements;
assessment of the two scenarios which appear a priori to be the most economic in terms of occupational doses: incineration on site, or dismantlement by divers under water, for which dosage calculation software has been adapted. ed.
