Within the framework of the project, the intension is to investigate whether it is operationally feasible to have an effect separating size of coal approximately 0.3 mm, this classification becoming necessary for various reasons in coal processing. A pilot plant comprising two different screening units supplied by the companies Siebtechnik and Derrick respectively was set up at the Monopol Colliery of Ruhrkohle AG to carry out these investigations. These screening units were tested separately and independently of each other.
In total, the investigations have shown, that even with the special screening units tested, the intended effective separating size of the approximately 0.3 mm can only be accomplished satisfactorily when limiting the specific screen surface load to approximately 5 t/m(2)h. This, however, is fully insufficient for the mass flows to be treated in hardcoal preparation. Should the aim of a grading of the smallest particles at approximately 0.3 mm be pursued further, the relevant investigation should concentrate on sluicing.
