Total ozone synoptic-scale fluctuations in the atmosphere: interpretation in terms of horizontal advection and divergence
The ozone concentration tendency equation is applied in the interpretation of synoptic scale ozone changes. Considering Umkehr ozone profiles coupled with winds at various levels together with total ozone horizontal gradients, an analysis is carried out for several cases. It is confirmed that meridional advection is the main factor in determining the observed synoptic scale ozone fluctuations.
