Towards on-line runaway early detection of runaway initiation using chaos theory techniques
In this work, an early warning detection device of runaway initiation using phase space time-delay embedding reconstruction techniques is presented. Firstly, the vast amount of parametric sensitivity studies in chemical reactors, based on the off-line analysis of energy and mass balance equations, are analyzed for defining an early warning on-line criterion for runaway detection. This criterion, based on an invariant property under phase space reconstruction, is compared with previous ones. Secondly, the on-line application of such criterion is shown. The appropriate modifications to the standard phase space reconstruction techniques, which have been developed to study the dynamics on the attractor are discussed, and theoretical and preliminary experimental results are shown.
