The economics of the information society
The OECD Committee for Information, Computer and Communications Policy (ICCP) launched a series of workshops on the Economics of the Information Society in mid-1995, in close cooperation with the European Commission, to encourage the development of the leading-edge economic research, data and analysis which is a prerequisite for informed policy discussion at the national and international level. This book is drawn from material presented at the first three Workshops, in Toronto, Istanbul and Tokyo. The Toronto meeting focussed on the macroeconomic impact of the development of information society. Expert views on trends and driving forces and recent research results were presented on the issues of economic growth, productivity, and employment. The Istanbul meeting concentrated on network economics, particularly the economic nature of network services, such as Internet, mobile telephone or other types of new network services, and their impact on the economy and society by their diffusion. The Tokyo meeting focussed on the impact of electronic commerce.
