In the building of modern coke ovens the trend is towards the achievement of larger cells. The object of the research was to evaluate the influence of the width of the cell, with different mixtures containing low cost coals, on process parameters and coke quality. The research was carried out on pilot scale in three experimental campaigns. Each campaign was characterized by distillations with different cell width (450 mm, 550 mm and 650 mm). For the experiment a coke mixture of ILVA/Taranto, a low volatile coal (LV), component of the same mixture and a high volatile non-coking coal (NC) were utilized.
