Abstract

The OECD's Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) requested a group of senior experts to review the nuclear safety research capabilities of OECD member states in the light of previous CSNI reports identifying areas where more research appeared to be needed. This report is the outcome, and looks at research capabilities and facilities, identifying areas of concern and indicating strategies which might be adopted to ensure the timely availability of research skills and tools to meet both short-term needs and those which seem likely to arise in the longer term. Research areas surveyed include thermal hydraulics, fuel and reactor physics, severe accidents, human factors, instrumentation and control, integrity of equipment and structures, and risk assessment.
