First investigations of the near surface turbulence structure and energy dissipation caused by wind mixing in the Baltic Sea
In order to investigate the small-scale structure of the near surface turbulence a special uprising micro-structure profiler, which includes a remotely controlled underwater winch, was developed. The aim of these first measurements under sea conditions was to develop a deployment technology and to demonstrate the general functionality as well as to acquire first data sets of marine near surface turbulence in shallow water environments. For this purpose, we participated in the March 1995 GOBEX expedition of the Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde and carried out several time series of different duration at different positions.
