Abstract

The steady state version of the complex Alfvén spectrum in toroidal geometry (CASTOR) code has been developed to study the stable part of the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) spectrum of toroidal plasmas. In this paper the influence of equilibrium parameters on the Alfvén spectrum is studied. The goal of this study is to solve the inverse problem: identification of the plasma profiles, and especially the safety factor profile, using measurements of MHD waves. This new kind of spectroscopy has been called MHD spectroscopy.
