Abstract

As a result of research a mechanised method of mining has been developed which takes into account the special conditions of head seams and other difficult seams, of reduced openings (3 to 4 metres), and of angles of dip up to 60 or even 55 degrees, where it is not possible to use classic methods with an ANF or Dressmatic machine. Research has enabled mechanisation at the work face of protected seams and those with difficult conditions, the opening of which can be as little as 3 metres. These faces previously had to be worked manually because ANF and Dressmatic machines used at the Vouters operational unit can only be used on faces with a minimum trench height of 5 metres. The introduction of a specific machine solves the problem by limiting the height of the trench to 3.5 metres in order to reduce the convergence of lode walls. The research was extended to faces with an opening of less than 3 metres, which are the last manual faces of the same pattern as previously. A new machine has been conceived and is in course of development.
