Abstract

In this report a two-cycle process using a bifunctional extractant of the carbamoyl methyl phosphoryl type (CMPO) as first cycle extractant, and di-two ethyl hexyl ortophosphoric acid (HDEHP) as second cycle extractant, is considered in order to achieve an alpha decontamination factor of high level liquid waste (HLLW) greater than 1E3 together with a reduction of the Lanthanides/Americium weight ratio by a factor of about 200. Experimentally measured distribution ratios have been employed as input data of a suitable computer code to define operating conditions and mixer/settler (M-S) stage numbers of a process flow sheet able to meet the abovementioned objectives.
