Abstract

The European Union regards Space as an element in Europe's economic security and, for this reason alone, it must support it in Europe and defend it outside Europe within the limits of its external responsibilities. Moreover, space applications are now able to contribute towards the implementation of the Union's policies and, for this reason, they must receive its backing; the Commission is one of Space's clients. Conversely, the space sector cannot afford to ignore the Union's policies such as, for instance, those connected with industry, telecommunications, and transport; space must form part of a more general approach at European level.
