Abstract

We have developed a new cell which uses the same filament, but is more reliable, consumes less, and responds 2.5 times faster than the one with which firedamp detectors are presently equipped. It will be possible to exchange cells in GTM90C firedamp detectors and this will improve their performance. However, the performance of this new cell will be fully exploited in the firedamp detector which we have developed. This instrument is based on a very sophisticated measuring technique, which we have patented. This technique allows virtually continuous measuring of firedamp, increases the lifespan of the cell, reduces consumption and suppresses the need for calibration. This manual instrument can be used as a portable, a marker, or, by connecting it to a remote measuring interface specially developed for this purpose, as a remote firedamp detector.

We have also developed a drip-feeding circuit for fixed firedamp detectors, which enables them to be supplied from an electric supply box at a distance of 2 to 3 kilometres. The drip-feeding source is intrinsically secure and can be maintained at all levels of firedamp. .
