In contrast to the blast drive, the machine drive allows for higher drive speeds whilst achieving, at the same time, improved protection of the rockface and profile-accurate steering. In addition to this, the machine drive shows advantages in safety and ergonomics, that should be used in the future and even increased, should the conditions of use deteriorate with increasing depth. Under these circumstances, the efficiency and the safety of machine drive systems should be increased by partially automating individual work processes.

In addition to the development and the sampling of the individual system components, the total system was installed and tested in the surface test installation Partial-cut-machine.

The function test could not be fully conducted within the framework of what was intended. Time delays occurred particularly when the sensor cut-outs were being attached to the steering system, as well as when the underground PC was integrated. In the end, these problems had been solved to the extent that an online visualisation of the underground PC was possible. In the main, the hardware prerequisites for an automated cutting process were achieved, but the existing software needs to be extended for the steering. ng.
