Abstract

Health telematics applications aim to achieve the best affordable care for everybody anywhere anytime in Europe with security and confidentiality through the use of the most appropriate digital multimedia networking technologies. This leaflet lists European healthcare facts and details current trends. It gives a brief history and summary of results of the health care telematics programme. Benefits, problems and examples of application domains are listed.

There are 8 project groups for the 1995-1998 activities:
multimedia patients records;
telematics assisted cooperative work for healthcare professionals;
departmental systems and advanced imaging;
integration platforms, continuity of care, regional networks;
telediagnosis, teleconsultation and emergency medicine;
information for citizens and health sector professionals;
cohesion, dissemination and exploitation of results, education;
research and industry.

Some participation statistics are included.

The final page gives an overview of some other European Commission activities related to healthcare.
