Evaluating the performance of the SANOA/DOAS system for SO(2), NO(2) and O(3) measurements
The European Reference Laboratory of Air Pollution (ERLAP) evaluated the multicomponent measuring system Système d'Analyse par Observation Active (SANOA) on behalf of Environnement SA (France). In continuous tests under operational conditions at the ERLAP laboratory in Ispra, calibration gas was passed through cells in the optical path of the Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) spectrometer. Among the array of promising techniques available for continuously monitoring air pollutants, DOAS is one of the most advanced. It offers a genuine alternative to conventional monitoring systems for a wide range of pollutants. After similar studies with the OPSIS DOAS instrument, the performance of the SANOA DOAS system in analysing sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ozone was evaluated. The tests showed the performance of the SANOA instrument to be generally good, all measured pollutants exhibiting acceptable instrument response linearity.
