Abstract

The EC Joint Research Centre at Ispra was requested by the EC DG XI to undertake a study to identify the common approaches and the main differences in the indicators, impact prediction methods, evaluation criteria, uncertainty analysis methods, risk assessment methods and terminology used in EU Member States when undertaking an environmental impact study (EIS). The type of projects considered are installations for the treatment and disposal of toxic and dangerous waste. In the context of the study 28 EISs from 11 EU Member States were analysed. This paper presents the main findings and recommendations of the final report of the study.
