The aim of the research undertaken was to develop a new generation of protective relays for asynchronous underground motors based on digital technology and making it possible to supplement the functions provided by the existing relays. This new product is intended to replace existing relays as and when required for the modernisation of gate end boxes for underground operation. As a result of this research we have available a digital protection relay which meets the criteria set out in the specification sheet. Before being introduced into industrial use it will have to be subjected to reliability tests. As a result of digital technology, in the future this product may be used for other applications such as, for example, the detection of earth faults by calculating the covalent current.
