A numerical model for shear dominated bridge piers
A model for simulation of squat piers under important transverse forces is presented: a classic fibre model with shear behaviour simulated through the strut-and-tie approach. The model includes an additional fibre working in parallel with the standard longitudinal fibres. The results obtained from the numerical model are compared with the experimental response of a large-scale bridge pier tested in the ELSA laboratory of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) at Ispra.
