Indoor pollution (IP) has been taken into consideration by EU regulatory or research activities. Among the regulatory activities, the construction product directive (106/89/EEC) is discussed in some detail whereas the European Collaborative Action 'Indoor Air Quality and Its Impact on Man' which implements a collaboration of European scientists from 15 countries and the Commission and is managed by the JRC's Environment Institute, is highlighted as the most comprehensive research action of the EC in the field of indoor pollution. Finally, the paper points to 5 research projects addressing aspects of IP that are supported by 4 different EC research programmes.
