In the coal field located in the Cuenca Central Asturiana, a coal deposit characterised by narrow vertical layers, and where several geological changes are occurring, is being worked on. In 58% of the reservoirs there are dips of more than 60 degrees. Since the end of the seventies, research work has been done in Asturia, with the aim to find the best working system by utilising an integrally mechanised system on such layers.

At the Mina la Camocha, the first tests performed by using an integrally mechanised system began in 1986 and went on with good results in the working of different kinds of layers. As soon as what needed to be studied in order to be improved was worked out, the project and the production of the new appliance RST3, was carried out. It was tested on layer 14 at the Mina la Camocha, as illustrated in the present report.

This report describes the equipment utilised, and offers analyses of the workshop progress and of the results obtained. Finally, the conclusions include different aspects of the installation, as well as both the functioning of the appliance itself and its practical applications. ns.
