Development of new methodology for the exploitation of narrow seams using explosives for the removal of waste layersFunded under: ECSC-COALRES 7C
The Fabero Basin has a great number of narrow coal layers, which demand special blasting techniques for its extraction. In order to define some methods of fragmentation with explosives suitable to the characteristics of these layers diverse blastings were designed and carried out, from September 1991 until mid-1996, studying the results attained until obtaining the highest possible effectiveness by slowly adjusting diverse parameters of design. The results of this project hold a great transcendence on the techno-economic viability of the exploitation of the coal resources found in the cited carboniferous basin and in others with similar characteristics, thus the economic advantages could result in deciding to mine in areas with high ratios of stone to ore that, until recently, were not considered profitable. The trial blastings which took place on the budget of this project figure in Table 1. Nevertheless, after attaining interesting results the investigation has continued completely on Antracitas Gaiztarro's account, see Table 2.
