In 1989 the concept of classification as dangerous for the environment was introduced in the Directive. Substances for which harmonized classification and labelling have been agreed at Community level are listed in Annex I of the Directive. The substances in Annex I are currently being revised with respect to their dangers for the environment. This paper gives a short reflection of the revision of Annex I with respect to the inclusion of the classification as dangerous for the environment. A brief outline is provided of the criteria for classification as dangerous for the environment, the procedure, and the state of the art revision of Annex I.
