This paper reviews both existing and planned Web based systems providing access to environmental and earth observation data. The specific needs of geographically referenced data are summarised and the methods and tools which are being developed to organise and search for data presented. Several levels of access to information and data are presented. The location of resources known as resource discovery is the first level of locating services on the Web. Metadata search engines allow the location of given data granules within a catalogue represents the next level of search. The access to the data itself, together with visualization tools is summarised.
