Abstract

It is of paramount importance to have knowledge of concrete behaviour at high deformation speed in order to assess structures stressed by accidental loads such as those caused by sever earthquakes, impacts, or explosions. This study was performed by utilising a new kind of equipment, Hopkinson Bar Bundle (HBB), which allows testing at high deformation speed. The new testing technique allows more accurate measurements of the mechanical characteristics of the material upon impact, and especially verification of its situation at the beginning of the cracking process. Furthermore, it allows the examination of the remaining section, which is resistant to the cracking process spreading, as well as checking the propagation while testing.
