Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Following a request of the Research, Technological Development and Energy Committee of the European Parliament the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) commissioned this report to VTT, one of the members of the European Science and Technology Observatory network. It aims to be a broad prospective analysis of the many questions related to the changing age structure of the European population. The report highlights interesting aspects related to the opportunities offered by new technologies for responding with new products and services to the changing characteristics of our society. Furthermore, it underlines the importance of social innovation for reconfiguring the relationship between customers, service and technology providers and development of care processes. It also emphasises that the diffusion of these products and services calls for introducing new and different training and education policies.
