Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Bromodichloromethane and chloroform are two trihalomethanes (THMs) for which parametric values have been proposed for the first time. The Directorate General for Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection (DG XI) of the European Commission contracted a study in order to investigate the formation of THMs during treatment and in the distribution network, and the practical possibilities for reducing the concentrations of these compounds without comprising disinfection.

This volume, first of a series of publications prepared in collaboration with Techware, provides:

- The Comparison of THMs standards in Member states and outside the European Union, Including the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines, with those set in Annex B of the revised EEC Directive;
- A per-country comparative analysis through the European Union on disinfection practices and control strategies to reduce THMs level in drinking water;
- The current compliance for major works with the EU proposed parametric values in Member States.
