Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In today's world, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons is vitally important. Safeguards and nuclear management lie at the heart of nuclear non-proliferation. In order to promote research and development in the field of safeguards and to encourage the advancement of nuclear materials management, the European Safeguards Research and Development Association (ESARDA) and the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) jointly sponsored a workshop on Science and Modern Technology for Safeguards. The purpose of this workshop was:

To inform the safeguards community about selected sciences and advanced technologies that are currently available or that will become available in the next few years and that could be used to support needed advances in international safeguards;
To stimulate application of those sciences and advanced technologies to safeguards by providing an opportunity for technical interchange among experts in the various technologies and in safeguards.
This publication is the proceedings to the workshop, held in Arona, Italy, 28-31 October 1996. 96.
