The aim of this research is to design an austenitic stainless steel with a nickel content lower than 2%. This new steel should add to its low cost and independence of nickel price, some competitive properties with respect to AISI 304 grade. Therefore, the project is a comparative study between the new alloy and AISI 304 grade steel.

In principle, is seems possible to include the new steel in applications involving cold deformation with a certain grade of drawing. Also applications of high yield point as in the railroad industry or atmospheric corrosion applications such as panels, shells, desks, cutlery, casseroles etc are indicated.
