Presence and distribution of organochlorine compounds in the city channels of the historical centre of Venice
The present work, performed in cooperation between JRC Ispra and UNESCO focused on the investigation of the sediment contamination status of the city channels of Venice in view of the foreseen sediment dredging and the storage and deposition of the dredged sediments. Twenty-one sediment samples from fourteen selected channels were taken in 1992 by sediment corer. All samples were analysed for the most critical organochlorine compounds. The analytical data obtained have been classified according to the Guidelines of the Italian Ministry of Environment.
