Abstract

Phebus FP (fission products) is at the centre of an international co-operation through a series of integral in-pile experiments, of key phenomena of postulated severe water reactor accident.

In test FPT 0 and FPT 1, the first experiments of the programme, performed in December 1993 and July 1996, respectively, the fuel reached very advanced states of degradation, comparable to what was observed in TMI 2. A wealth of results on fission product behaviour was generated. Computer codes assessing the safety of currently operating plants are now validated with the results. .
