Abstract

COST is a framework for scientific and technical cooperation, allowing the coordination of national research on a European level. COST Actions consist of basic and precompetitive research as well as activities of public utility. There are 25 COST member countries: the fifteen Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Slovenia and Croatia plus the European Commission. For this sixth edition, the COST General Activity Report provides a general panorama of all COST Activities in 1995-1996. The publication provides for each individual COST Action or Committee a brief and general description as well as its objectives, current status and organization, meetings, publications and work planned. Furthermore, certain information is summarized in diagramatic form and the annexes provide references for general documentation on COST as well as a list of contacts persons.
