Abstract

Tore Supra is one of five large tokamaks presently in service world-wide. Its main purpose is experimentation with long-life pulses. As an item of research equipment for controlled thermonuclear fusion by magnetic confinement, Tore Supra contains a large number of constituent elements such as large superconductor magnets, large cooled copper magnets, accelerated atom injectors, cryogenic systems, heat extractors, etc. These components, many of which are of original design, are sometimes used to their present limits. Tore Supra is a good example of the diversity of electrical applications and a witness to the constant technical progress being made in the electronics field.
