Abstract

The influence of the Mn and N(2) content on the 18% Cr, 8% Ni, low C stainless steels behaviour has been studied. This study has been conducted only on the base metals, but also in submerged and electron beam welded conditions. 20 mm thickness plates have been manufactured by CLI, France, as experimental heats. The experimental parent filler metals for surface acoustic wave (SAW) process have been developed for a d-Fe content between 5 and 12%. The substitution of Ni by Mn or N(2) has been conducted according to gamagene potential of the elements. The influence of the chemical compositions on the sensitization of this materials has been also studied. The evaluation of the material behaviour has been conducted by mechanical and corrosion test. Technological tests of welded plates have also been performed for the qualification of the welding procedures.
