Abstract

Water determination can be performed by secondary methods such as oven drying or infrared drying. These are not selective for water but detect the weight loss of the material. The analytical parameters are achieved by experience or better by comparison to reference methods.
State-of-the-art water determinations have to be performed by reference methods such as direct volumetric KF-Titration, furnace assisted KF-Titration or the BMA 600 method. They are selective for water and the BMA 600 and can additionally distinguish between the different types of water (eg surface, capillary and crystal water).
For reference material producers the water content of the material is of paramount importance. Therefore various analytical methods for the determination of water are applied to obtain reliable results of high quality. .
