Abstract

The subject of this report is an investigation of the influence of a number of parameters on the fatigue properties of box sections. The study included an assessment of:

- The fatigue properties of box structures and T-shaped members, representing joints between cross-members and longitudinal struts, under bending and torsional loading;
- The effectiveness of new assembly methods. ie adhesive bonding and weld bonding in improving the fatigue properties of structures under bending and torsional loading;
- The applicability of existing models for the prediction of fatigue properties, developed from standard joints, in order to determine their applicability to structures and T-shaped members typical of automotive applications.
