Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Within the EURET Programme (European Research programme for Transport), which forms part of the second Framework Programme (1987-1991), the Directorate General for Transport of the European Commission (DG VII) called for a study on the issue of intermodal transport focusing particularly on fast transfer technologies. The study reported here, under the title SIMET (Smart Intermodal European Transfer), is performed by a Consortium of twelve partners from seven different EU countries. The structure of the SIMET research activities is based around three main topics of intermodal transport:

- Intermodal network organization (goods flows, transport networks, macroscopical analysis);
- Information systems;
- Present and future technologies (loading units and rolling stock, transfer equipment).

The technico-economic study of ideal future terminals for intermodal transport is developed from these three studies. dies.
