ERTMS: European rail traffic management systemFunded under: FP2-EURET
As part of the EC's specific programme for research in transport (EURET) the Commission has been promoting and coordinating research and development for the European Rail Traffic Management (ERTMS). The objective of the ERTMS Programme was to design a control system for rail traffic, both passenger and goods, to evaluate the location and transmission equipment and develop the main software components of the system. The realization of ERTMS was undertaken by a consortium of Industry (EUROSIG) and the progress was monitored by Railways, UIC and the Commission. The work has been divided into 5 Tasks: system design; assessing train location tools; assessing transmission system; assessing data processing architecture; and EURORADIO. The report concerning this work is presented in this publication.
