VTMIS: Vessel traffic management and information systemsFunded under: FP2-EURET
The aim of this project is to promote advanced technical and operational solutions for maritime safety, the protection of the environment as well as to contribute to increased efficiency of cargo flows and ship/port operations, resulting in the development of an Integrated Vessel Traffic Management an Information System (VTMIS). In particular, the work will provide minimum performance requirements for hardware, software, operational procedures and operator training to be applied as a standard for future European VTMIS. The main objective of the study is to fully integrate the results of RTIS and TAIE and to assess the policy impacts of the results. This report is organized in four parts. The first part describes the first workshop which was held in Genoa in January 1995. The second part provides an overview of the relevant results of the projects considered, which were or became available at or after the first workshop. The third part contains information concerning the second workshop, which was held in Brussels in October 1995. The last part is an epilogue.
