This report gives a general overview of air pollution monitoring at the EMEP station of the JRC Ispra for the year 1996. SO2, NO2, O3 and CO have been monitored routinely in air, SO4, NO3, NH4, CI, suspended particulate material (SPM), acidity and heavy metals in atmospheric particulate material and SO4, NO3, NH4, CI, Na, K, Ca, Mg, pH, electrical conductivity and acidity in atmospheric precipitation. Data for the meteorological parameters, wind direction, wind speed, temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, precipitation and solar irradiation have been continuously collected. All data, forming a part of the required EMEP programme, have been transmitted to the EMEP data evaluation laboratory of the Chemical Coordinating Centre (CCC) at the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), where they are used together with the data from all the participating countries to provide the background information necessary for the modeling of pollutant fluxes in Europe.
