Ozone monitoring in the European Union
The Directive 92/72/EEC established a harmonized procedure for the monitoring of ozone concentrations, exchanging of information and informing and warning the population with regard to air pollution by ozone. The main aspects of the Directive are presented here. The data collected in the fifteen Member States since 1994 are then discussed. The last part of the presentation focuses on the characterization and the interpretation of the ozone phenomenology on a European scale, on the basis of both high ozone levels data and meteorological data, for some selected episodes in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
