  • The European geographic soil information system at scale 1:1000000 and the creation of a new georeferenced soil database at a scale corresponding to 1:250000


The European Soil Bureau is a new body of the European Commission in charge of soil information in Europe. It collects and distributes soil data. Currently the major European soil database is the Soil Geographical Database of Europe at scale 1:1000000. It will be completed by 1998. Future developments include the creation of the European Soil Information System (EUSIS) which will have as its backbone a new Georeferenced Soil Database for Europe at a scale corresponding to 1:250000 Italy puts itself at the forefront of these developments through the early creation of pilot areas for this new database.
