Particle deposition in a turbulent boundary layer over a large particle size spectrum
The JRC experimental facility STORM performs tests in order to study deposition and resuspension processes, which play an important rôle in many applications. The tests serve mainly the validation of simulation codes, most of them being one-dimensional. This paper describes a deposition code which has been developed in two dimensions, creating therefore the basis to include deposition affecting processes closest to the wall. The fluid flow exhibits a strong shear in this region and can not be modelled in one-dimensional codes. The code simulates a realistic particle size spectrum, and focuses its attention on the deposition behaviour of particles subjected to thermophoresis.
