Characterisation of turbulent electrostatic fluctuations of relevance for transport in the scrape-off layer of the ASDEX-tokamak by means of describing events localised in space and time as superposition
The loss of energy and particles in tokamaks, the so-called anomalous transport, is caused by turbulent fluctuations. Their strength is biggest in the scrape-off layer. Understanding the fluctuations will make it possible to improve the enclosure times and to have an effect on the scrape-off layer. Fluctuations of the floating potential and the ion saturation stream were investigated. The investigation process facilitated the description of space- and time-resolved data as the sum of events plus a residuum. The turbulent fluctuations in the scrape-off layer of ASDEX differ significantly from a Gauss coincidence process. The event analysis describes the development of typical structures and for this reason offers stricter criteria for the comparison of numeric turbulence simulations than the correlation with spectral analysis.
