  • In field and real-time use of WWW technology for the decision-making and operations planning for large environmental experiments: The ACE-2 experience

Abstract

During the ACE-2 Project summer campaign of 1997, a simple but very effective worldwide web (WWW) based system has been used at the ACE-2 operational centre at the Tenerife Los Rodeos airport where operations for the various platforms were planned daily and many other decisions were taken on the basis of a large amount of information coming in from various instruments, groups and platforms involved in the exercise. This system called On-Line Catalogue (OLC) contains, in an organized fashion, pointers to data which are available on-line to the ACE-2 community for browsing. The OLC allows distributed input and upload data and information from the ACE-2 Internet connected sites which serve the daily planning meetings (meteo data and satellite data, platform data and information, etc) and then dispatches decisions and essential data to relevant groups.
