Abstract

The objective of the Investigation of Core Degradation project (COBE) is the development of codes that are able to predict the progression of core behaviour in reactors in order to develop and assess appropriate accident management measures. The project includes the development of codes, the assessment of codes against experiments, the execution of experiments and scaling studies for the experiments. The project is at the mid-term stage and is proceeding according to schedule. A better understanding of quenching behaviour and other late-phase core degradation processes is being developed.
