Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The endorsement and wide spread use of training programmes for the improvement of the effectiveness of crew coordination and flight-deck management has contributed to the further enhancement of the human factors issues in aviation safety. Such training extends to cabin crews, flight maintenance and dispatch personnel, and the term crew resource management (CRM) has come into general use. The main role of the persons holding these courses (facilitators) is to foster concepts and promote the awareness of the human factors problems, issues, and solutions amongst the participants. This crucial role implies that a number of basic concepts and notions must be developed and must become part of the background knowledge of a facilitator. The objective of this manual is to support the development of such type of knowledge and is strictly connected with the method proposed by JRC for the CRM course.
