Abstract

The aim of the research project is the improvement of the blast furnace control by the operators. This shall be achieved by creating an expert system, which offers a support to the necessary continuous assessment and prognosis of the furnace condition as well as actions to be inferred. A system was implemented, that uses knowledge sources of different origins:

- Knowledge of experience of operators and engineers, expressed by rules;
- Physical and chemical interferences, expressed by mathematical models;
- Characteristic signal shapes, interpreted by artificial neural networks.

The expert system adopts a coordinating task, applies the respective advantages of the different representations of knowledge, and compiles their results to a global assessment of the process situation. tion.
