Abstract

The crack propagation behaviour in the upper shelf regime of two fine grained structural steels of type FeE 355 were investigated. The aim of this research project was to define conditions for the observed deviation of the stable growing crack away from the fusion line to other parts of the heat affected zone (HAZ) in direction the base metal. In addition to the tensile and the charpy-V-tests hardness measurements and metallographical examinations of the base metals and all combinations were performed.
